The Patel Residence is located in a picturesque area in the rolling hills near Austin, Texas, adjoining a nature preserve. The residence was developed for a retired couple, with living quarters for their elderly parents as well as visiting grandchildren. The house is organized with living and sleeping zones on either side of a linear corridor, culminating in the light-filled kitchen at one end and a prayer room at the west end. The arrival and entry area leads through a landscaped courtyard with views through the house to the back courtyard beyond, and is flanked by a pool on one side and an outdoor cooking and dining area on the other side. All areas of the house utilize high clerestory windows to guarantee ample natural light shines into every area of the house. Views of the outdoors are framed via full-height windows and a wrap-around deck with an overhead sunscreen that was designed to link all outdoor areas and provide space for outdoor activities.
