The proposed Aloft Hotel in Downtown Austin would preserve the original historic facade from the 1860’s, improve the existing pedestrian scale along Congress Avenue, and juxtapose it against a new modern Aloft Hotel guest floor tower beyond. Public functions occupy the zone directly behind the facade. Bar and public areas on the ground floor connect to the pedestrian flow along the avenue. A gym and an outdoor pool at the fourth level overlook activities on the pedestrian way below. A large oval skylight and edge skylights at this level provide natural light for the levels below. The guest rooms in the tower are designed to offer views of the Capitol Building and beyond. These are housed in a tower setback maintaining pedestrian scale at grade level while presenting a modern tower to the Austin skyline.
